Blackline Safety adds Cologne and Abu Dhabi offices

Calgary-based Blackline Safety is opening new offices in Cologne, Germany, and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, to deepen sales and service capacity across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

The move lands during a busy trade-show week, with teams on the ground at A+A in Düsseldorf and ADIPEC in Abu Dhabi, two venues where energy and industrial buyers set budgets for the year ahead. The expansion speaks to export growth for a TSX-listed safety tech name that sells connected gas detection and lone worker devices to heavy industry.

EMEA push follows ADNOC deal

Blackline Safety says the Cologne hub will support regional sales, service and training, while Abu Dhabi will focus on energy, utilities and petrochemical clients. Management pitches proximity as a service advantage for enterprise accounts that deploy thousands of devices across multiple sites.

“Opening regional offices in Cologne and Abu Dhabi strengthens our local service and support capabilities and positions us to better partner with global enterprise customers,” said Cody Slater, Blackline Safety’s chief executive.

ADIPEC and A+A give the teams a timely platform to demonstrate software updates and meet procurement leads as 2026 planning starts.

For Canadian suppliers, an anchor in the Gulf often follows large framework agreements, and Blackline points to a multi‑year purchase program with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company for up to 28,000 devices, first disclosed Aug. 21.

Service growth leads revenue gains

Underpinning the geographic buildout, service revenue keeps climbing as devices come with multi‑year connectivity and monitoring plans. In its fiscal third quarter, Blackline reported total revenue of $37.6 million, with service up 27 percent to $23.2 million and annual recurring revenue, known as ARR, at $80.2 million, up 29 percent year over year.

“Our Annual Recurring Revenue increased 29% year‑over‑year to a record $80.2 million,” Slater added.

Management also highlighted a 62 percent trailing 12‑month gross margin and 34 straight quarters of year‑over‑year growth, signalling scale benefits from software and monitoring. For investors who track cash conversion, the tilt toward subscriptions and rentals can smooth quarters even as product orders shift with industrial cycles.

Trade shows target energy buyers

The new offices arrive as Blackline showcases platform upgrades such as ZoneAware geofencing, an upgraded Loner Mobile app and bulk management tools, features pitched to simplify compliance and fleet administration for HSE teams.

ADIPEC runs Nov. 3 to 6 in Abu Dhabi, while A+A runs Nov. 4 to 7 in Düsseldorf, placing Blackline in front of operators, EPCs and distributors finalizing 2026 safety budgets. The Gulf remains a priority after the ADNOC agreement, where initial orders included connected single‑gas detectors and location beacons for complex facilities.

Execution will hinge on converting trade‑show interest into multi‑site rollouts, then layering services that lift margins over time. For Canada’s industrial tech base, a deeper EMEA footprint positions Blackline to export more software‑led safety tools and compete for larger frameworks tied to energy and utilities.
